Dorothy Thompson holds a Juris Doctorate and a Master of Legal Studies with an emphasis in Probate Law. Dorothy’s legal practice is focused primarily on Estate Planning and Administration - providing legal advice, personal guidance, and support to individuals who want to create a plan to protect and pass on their assets, and for those who find themselves in the position of managing or settling their loved ones’ estates. She also assists clients with conservatorships and with small business formation and dissolution.
In addition to her legal education, Dorothy also has over twenty years of business management and accounting experience which followed on her Bachelor of Arts degrees in Economics and Legal Studies. This combined financial and legal background, along with her genuine interest in and care for her clients, places her in an excellent position to knowledgeably and compassionately advise according to each individual’s unique circumstances.
Dorothy is a member of the California Lawyers Association (Trusts and Estates Section), the Santa Cruz County Bar Association, the Santa Cruz County Estate Planning Council, Women Lawyers of Santa Cruz County, the Orange County Bar Association, the Trusts and Estates Section of the Orange County Bar, Orange County Women Lawyers Association, and the California Supreme Court Historical Society.
When Dorothy is not practicing the law, she is likely to be found practicing Aikido - “The Art of Peace.” She also enjoys surfing and singing, and adores waking up each day to a troupe of wet noses and wagging tails.
Maria Reis is a Paralegal and our office manager. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of California at Santa Cruz. She has lived all over the world, speaks multiple languages, and has a gift for helping clients feel comfortable and valued in a legal environment. Maria also supports our clients by providing administrative information and documents, scheduling, maintaining communications, and keeping the office and attorneys well organized. She does all of this with a sense of empathy and professionalism.
Maria is a member of Women Lawyers of Santa Cruz County. She will soon be entering law school and we are very excited to support her continued legal development.
